Overview

The mission of the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (HNRCA) is to promote healthy aging through nutrition science to empower people seeking to enjoy long, active, and independent lives. HNRCA investigators examine how nutrition and physical activity play a role in the prevention of the major chronic degenerative conditions and diseases associated with aging. The HNRCA’s Diet, Neuroscience, and Healthy Aging research directive tests the overall hypothesis that diet contributes to healthspan by delaying the onset and progression of age-related structural and functional changes to the brain and sensory systems.

What You'll Do

An HNRCA Senior Scientist (academic equivalent to full professor) is a recognized leader in his/her field of research. She/he is known internationally, as evidenced by participation at international meetings as an invited speaker, by membership in study sections, advisory groups, etc., and by authorship of review articles. She/he should have a consistent and continuing record of nutrition- and/or healthy aging-related “team science” research accomplishments, including original research contributions published in peer-reviewed journals (guideline: 60-80 or more, depending upon impact and citations) and of steady external funding from government and other peer-reviewed sources. His/her record should also demonstrate the ability to broaden and evolve research interests over time and to remain at the forefront of research in his/her field, as well as to effectively mentor and train students, postdoctoral scholars, and junior scientists. She/he will effectively promote their research interests and the HNRCA beyond the confines of the HNRCA and Tufts University. Most candidates will have been an associate professor, Scientist I, or Research Scientist I for six years or longer.

Essential Functions:

• Plan and conduct independent research in collaboration with other investigators at the HNRCA, elsewhere at Tufts, and at other institutions; collect and analyze data for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Develop grant proposals to secure extramural grant funding from the government or other peer-reviewed sources
• Mentor and otherwise guide graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and less experienced scientists

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

• PhD, ScD, MD, or equivalent terminal degree
• Fourteen or more years’ experience in nutrition and/or aging-related research, including three or more years’ postdoctoral training
• Demonstrated ability to secure peer-reviewed extramural grant funding
• Demonstrated ability (via peer-reviewed publications) to make significant contributions to scientific research and scholarship on nutrition and/or aging

Preferred Qualifications:

• Six or more years’ experience as an associate professor or Scientist I
• Experience as NIH study section reviewer
  

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

• This position may require work on evenings and weekends as determined by study need.

Pay Range

Minimum $161,300.00, Midpoint $201,650.00, Maximum $242,000.00
 
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
