Position Summary

The Villanova University M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing is pleased to invite applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research and Innovation. This newly established position reflects the University's 2016 designation in the Carnegie Classification as a Doctoral Research Institution. The Associate Dean for Research and Innovation will report to the Dean of the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing and will be responsible for the strategic direction and initiatives of the College's growing research enterprise.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Dean for Research and Innovation will serve as:
Innovator
- Provide creative leadership and strategic vision to support and expand the research enterprise within the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, capitalizing on current strengths and developing new areas of innovation.
- Lead research initiatives that align with Villanova Universitys mission, vision, and strategic plan.
- Formulate goals and oversee the evaluation of faculty progress in scholarship, research, and grant activity.
Mentor
Identify and coordinate mentorship and capacity building opportunities related to research and scholarship for faculty at all ranks engaged in research.
- Play a major role in guiding faculty members in the development of their programs of research.
- Provide substantive mentorship for faculty to promote success in all aspects of the research process, including preparation of competitive grants for external funding, grant management, and knowledge dissemination activities.
- Assist faculty to employ diverse strategies for knowledge dissemination and implementation.
Team Builder
- Cultivate the development of team science and interdisciplinary teams necessary for the submission of successful competitive grant applications.
- Nurture an environment for inquiry, innovation, imagination, and collegiality.
- Oversee the College of Nursings Research infrastructure, including the Director of Grant Development, Statistician, Deployed Grants Administrator, research assistants, and research staff.
Collaborator
- Collaborate with University leaders and resources to expand the research infrastructure in the College of Nursing necessary for faculty and students to thrive as scholars.
- Engage proactively, as a member of the Colleges leadership team, with Colleges and Centers across the University, as well as with clinical partners, community leaders, industry, and other national and international stakeholders, to identify areas for research innovation and collaboration.
- Foster and maintain strategic relationships with local and national funding sources.
- Serve as a liaison to promote compliance with all research-related policies and regulations in concert with the Universitys Office of Grants and Contracts and Office of Research Protections.

Minimum Qualifications

- Earned PhD, in Nursing or a related discipline.
- Current rank at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor, or eligible for appointment as Full Professor at Villanova University.
- Robust, sustained history of funding at the federal level and publication/dissemination activities.
- Strong evidence of leadership in facilitating team science and interdisciplinary research collaborations.
- History of successful faculty mentorship in research, scholarship, and dissemination.
- Experience in implementing capacity building strategies to support faculty research.
- Expertise in existing and emerging research designs and methodology.
- Evidence of excellent consultation, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Recent funding at the federal level.
- Knowledge of diverse funding sources (federal and non-federal, foundation).
- Recent experience as reviewer on National Institutes of Health study sections.
- Familiarity with pre- and post-award funding guidelines at the federal level.
- Teaching experience in an academic setting.
- History of leadership in national and global research activities.
- Administrative experience in seeking and managing human, technological, space, and other resources to support the development of research and scholarship.
