RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be contributing to teaching, research, and service. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, and effective communication and interpersonal skills. Their primary teaching responsibilities will be teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses as needed by the department. The new faculty member will be expected to establish an independent research program that complements current research in the department. Examples of research areas that complement departmental strengths include, but are not limited to: nutrition, obesity, diabetes, cancer, neuroscience, and metabolic diseases. The candidate will be expected to actively seek intramural and extramural funding, publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals, present research at conferences, and supervise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
SETTING: The Department of Nutritional Sciences employs 9 tenure-track faculty and is affiliated with the College of Human Sciences. The department offers a baccalaureate degree with program options in Nutrition Science (pre-med), Dietetics, and Wellness, as well as master, and doctoral degree programs in Nutrition. Opportunities to engage in collaborative research are supported by the Auburn University Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Disease Research Program, and the Auburn University Research Initiative in Cancer (AURIC). East Alabama Health, and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) provide additional opportunities for translational research.
