The School of Public Health at the University at Albany, State University of New York, (http://www.albany.edu/sph/) invites applications for a fully funded, tenure-track faculty position in Implementation Science at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The position is within the Department of Health Policy, Management, and Behavior (HPMB) in the Social Behavior and Community Health track.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in the implementation science field. The candidate should demonstrate success or skills in seeking external funding to improve implementation, systematically research and evaluate, and scale up or disseminate innovative public health interventions to reduce the gap between what is known and what is done to advance health equity. Candidates who utilize a community-engaged research approach to address social and/or environmental determinants in Maternal and Child Health, Global Health, Injury Prevention, Chronic Disease Prevention, Communicable Disease, or Behavioral Health are encouraged to apply. The school has a long-standing partnership with the New York State Department of Health and relationships with local insurers, hospitals, nonprofit and other organizations. There are opportunities for collaboration with Colleges and Schools across the university, such as the School of Social Welfare.

The candidate will contribute to expanding the Department’s teaching capacity in implementation science and will have opportunities to teach in-person or virtual courses in program planning, implementation, and/or evaluation, maternal and child health, and/or global health. This candidate will mentor MPH and DrPH students and actively engage in university, community, and professional service. Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to fostering an environment of inclusion and collegiality among a culturally diverse academic community.

The School of Public Health is housed in one of the most diverse public Research 1 University in the U.S. The college’s strong, foundational partnership with the New York State Department of Health provides faculty with opportunities for timely and impactful research to improve population health and wellbeing and reduce health inequities in New York State, the nation, and across the globe.  Students have unique and extensive experiential learning in public health practice.  The school is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and offers MPH, MS, DrPH, and PhD degrees.

HPMB is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary department with concentrations in both Social Behavior & Community Health and Health Policy & Management. Faculty in the department make substantial contributions in diverse areas such as aging, health disparities, global health, Artificial Intelligence, maternal and child health, health communication, behavioral health, health care policy, long-term care, and health information technology. The school is in the Capital District of New York State, making it an ideal location to conduct research and influence policy and practice.

The school has a rapidly growing BS in Public Health program, on-campus and online MPH programs, and master’s and doctoral programs in Public Health with concentrations in Health Policy, Social Behavior and Community Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health Practice, and Population Medicine. The School offers Graduate Certificate Programs in Public Health Fundamentals, Global Health Studies, Maternal and Child Health, HIV Studies, Health Disparities, and Public Health Surveillance and Preparedness, and offers opportunities for faculty to collaborate with Institutes and Centers, such as the Institute for Social and Health Equity (ISHE), Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities (CEMHD), and the Center for Collaborative HIV Research, Practice, and Policy (CCHRP).

Requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must have a doctoral degree in public health with a social/behavioral sciences emphasis or in a related discipline.
  • Degrees must be from a university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization by 5/1/2025.
  • The candidate must demonstrate evidence of scholarly research achievement in implementation science and related research areas. (e.g.: peer reviewed manuscripts, commissioned reports, peer reviewed books/book chapters, evidence-informed articles, or presentations at scientific meetings/conferences) at the level appropriate for Assistant or Associate Professor position.
    • The candidate for Assistant Professor must demonstrate potential for teaching program planning, implementation, and/or evaluation courses. The candidate for Associate Professor must demonstrate a history of teaching program planning, implementation, and/or evaluation courses.
  • Applicants for Assistant Professor must detail in the cover letter their plan for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities including in-person and online. Applicants for Associate Professor must have experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities including in-person and online. They should also discuss:
    • Approaches to course development,
    • Strategies for course instruction,
    • Ideas for mentoring 
    • Consideration for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Applicants must demonstrate in their cover letter how they have supported diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging in their research and service and how they intend to continue doing so in this position.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • For Assistant Professor, demonstrated potential for seeking external research funding. For Associate Professor, a history of applying and obtaining external funding for their research.
  • A record of positive teaching evaluations for public health or health-related courses, preferably in the topic areas mentioned above.
