Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) is a comprehensive college health service providing fully accredited, primary medical care, counseling and psychological services, and innovative health promotion programs for students, faculty, and staff. UHS provides on-campus medical care and coordinates supplemental needs for off-campus care through a network of community specialists and hospitals. UHS manages the student health insurance and workers' compensation insurance programs.

Approximately 65,000 visits occur annually including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Occupational Health and Specialty Clinics. Services are designed to minimize the impact of illness, emotional distress and injury on studies and work. The Social Services (SOS) unit offers short-term counseling, groups, case management and nutrition services to the campus student population. Counseling staff consists of social workers who provide compassionate specialty counseling on a range of specific and highly sensitive topics. Responsibilities

Develops and manages a wide range of projects and strategic initiatives for Cal student mental health services within University Health Services (currently known as CAPS, BHP and SOS departments.) Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization. Involves analytical studies on a variety of mental health policies, projects, programs and issues in support of Cal student mental health services and the development of new and changing mental health systems and programs. Assists in policy and program planning, development, administration, management and implementation; interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services to Cal student mental health services and other stakeholders.

Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge and recognized expertise in the overall field of project and program management; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage and lead programs and projects that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.

Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with mental health programs and related proposals with broad impact across Cal student mental health services. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and strategic initiatives as directed by Cal student mental health services (Innovation Development and Operations/ Wellness and Care System.)

  • Develops and manages a wide range of projects and strategic initiatives for Cal student mental health services. Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization. Builds and tracks meeting agendas, develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for Cal student mental health strategic initiatives and projects (current projects include, but are not limited to: Compassionate Crisis Response Program, ADHD program, Crisis, Comprehensive Intensive Care Team and Stepped Care model development and integration at UC Berkeley) Proposes, leads and / or participates in Cal student mental health services policy, strategy and planning committees and working groups. Guides and directs project planning which may include senior management, faculty, and / or external constituencies.
  • Leads efforts to conduct highly complex analyses in support of both business and wellness related programs within Cal student mental health services including development and tracking of policies and initiatives. Collaborates with campus and UHS partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new mental health programs and processes.
  • Develops and advocates solutions to Cal student mental health services program issues, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, or programs. Presents and develops complex proposals on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options related to Cal student mental health services programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction and strategic planning for the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
  • Advanced project management skills and experience.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Advanced knowledge of organizational and strategic initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.


Preferred Qualifications


  • PMI Certification preferred.


Salary & Benefits

  • This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits.
  • Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $82,400 - $116,900.
