Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities
Teaching a range of Public Health courses (including Psychosocial Determinants of Health, Health Disparities and Inequities, Public Health Education & Communication, Community Health Methods, Public Health Leadership & Emergency Management, etc.), using both face-to-face and online instruction methodologies at the graduate and undergraduate levels
Applying integrative teaching/learning approach, with a focus on experiential learning and research, working with diverse populations including in public health settings
Activity in advisement and mentoring of public health students
Record of funded research to demonstrate how to apply the theoretical frameworks in practice. It’s important the applicant understands that integration of teaching and practice of the instructors creates an avenue where theory is integrated with practice so that practitioners become educators and assist students from learning theories out of books to application in the fields
Desire and ability to partner with a diverse set of communities since incorporation of community skills and experiential learning into the curriculum provides opportunities for students and faculty to partner with and provide technical assistance to communities and state and local agencies
A desire and ability to establish institutional partnership with health departments, other colleges, advisory board, etc. What’s at stake is the capacity to perform: to put what one knows into practice since when an instructor uses an example from his/her own experience, learning can stimulate a desire for further learning
Record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations on a national/international fora
Professional certification (e.g., CPH, CHES, MCHES)
Advancing research undertakin s in the department by integrating research with appropriate analytical software (SAS, SPSS, EPINFO, GIS, @kisk, Adobe CC) and systems tools, (agent-based modéls, closed loop diagrams) or other technology
DrPH or PhD preferred
Master of Public Health (MPH) and other related terminal or professional degree in a Health or Policy related field (DDS, OD, PhD, MD, JD, etc.) required
A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a public health programs/schools.
Knowledge of health education and health communication principles.
Has knowledge and understanding of community-based research techniques.
Has basic knowledge of applying statistical software/tools to analyze public health data and utilizing the information generated in an educational setting.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership using appropriate management skills including staff supervision, budget administration, decision-making, effective communication, and time management.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups (faculty, staff, students, and clients) openly and honestly in verbal, written and electronic forms.
Interpersonal skills to effectively function in an educational environment.
Has organizational, problem-solving, and conflict management skills to work as a team player.
The salary is commensurate with education, training and experience.
