This position will assist in the implementation of the SNAP-Ed program by providing direct and indirect nutrition education to the SNAP eligible population at the local level and throughout the state. Supports the Speedway to Healthy Exhibit by conducting exhibit tours for youth grades K-5; assists with delivery of programs through partnerships with community based organizations, schools, etc. that serve the SNAP eligible audience; and administers pre-/post-tests and evaluations to provide input for routine outcome reporting.

The vision for the SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program) is to empower participants to improve behaviors related to nutrition and physical activity in accordance with current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA food guidance. This position supports the need for nutrition education programs to positively address the increasing rates of obesity, poor nutrition, and lack of access to healthy foods, especially in low income populations.
The SNAP-Ed Program Assistant will be located in Troy NC, Montgomery County.

Minimum Experience/Education
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Some college credit hours completed.
  • Knowledge of the low income community’s infrastructure and culture.
  • Computer skills including data entry, e-mail communication skills, and computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Word and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Time management, budgeting, and financial management skills.
  • The following abilities demonstrated through experience:
    o Ability to learn nutrition and nutrition related information as outlined in the project and teach nutrition/food safety/thrifty food shopping/food preparation/physical activity in classroom settings (training will be provided),
    o Ability to adapt to change as the audience and/or the program changes.
    o Ability to network with other individuals and agency representatives, to work with others, and to recruit participants.
    o Ability to work in high-pressure atmosphere while maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor
    o Ability to adhere to operational policies and procedures.
    o Ability to maintain confidentiality.
