TECHNICAL QUALIFICATION: Ph.D in Cancer biology/mechanisms; Toxicology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Developmental biology, or a closely related discipline.

 REQUIREMENTS: Highly motivated, grounded in fundamentals of Cancer biology/mechanisms, hands on laboratory skills in molecular and cell biology assays for cancer evaluation, research excellence, excellent writing and communication skills, ability to work in a large team, interest in grant writing.

 RESPONSIBILITIES: The individual will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team comprising of Cancer scientists and engineers to conduct mechanistic studies on the effect of select environmental contaminants (Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals) on cancer risk in individuals exposed to these contaminants. The individual will assist in IRBs for sample collection (tissues, blood and urine) and prepare samples for genomic and metabolomic analysis at the Core facilities in the Roy Carver Biotechnology Center. Animal experiments as needed might be needed to validate cancer risk and epigenetic toxicity due to exposure to EDCs. Opportunities exist to collaborate with a clinician team at the Carle Foundation Hospital and investigators at the Cancer Center at Illinois (CCIL), and the Illinois Superfund Research Center (ISRC). Ability to write manuscripts and learn to write grants.

EXPERTISE: Molecular biology assays (gene and protein expression), sample handling and preparation for genomic and metabolomic analysis.

OTHER SKILLS: Experience in handling patient samples (blood and tissue), cloning, primary cultures, epigenetics, Toxicology, knowledge of informatics, basic statistics to design experiments and perform simple calculations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is an Illinois Superfund Research Center (ISRC) effort in Cancer Toxicology. The Laboratory is located at the Biomedical Research Center in Carle Foundation Hospital. The individual will be part of the Cancer Center at Illinois and provided access to the University Core facilities with permission. Potential to collaborate with EPA, College of Veterinary Medicine, Clinicians at the Carle Hospital, and the Illinois Fire Service Institute.
