The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences (DEOHS) within the School of Public Health at the University of Washington (UW) invites applications for two full time, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2020 (12 month appointment, UW Job Class Code: 0116). Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Our department values diversity, rigor, and innovative approaches to environmental and occupational health (EOH) research and practice. We welcome candidates with expertise in any discipline that informs EOH, including but not limited to: (1) disaster preparedness, resilience and policy; and (2) toxicology.

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences is a premier research and educational department. DEOHS has research programs providing leadership in toxicology, exposure assessment, environmental epidemiology, occupational health and safety, microbiology, and environmental health practice-based participatory research. Educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate level train future leaders in environmental and occupational health sciences.  As part of the top-ranked UW School of Public Health, DEOHS educates tomorrow’s environmental health and safety leaders and reaches today’s workforce and other stake-holder communities with sustainable environmental and occupational health solutions through our public service, innovative research and cross-disciplinary partnerships.

Our program is ranked fifth in the world among academic environmental and occupational health sciences programs. The department is home to numerous training grants and research centers supported by the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health; this includes an NIEHS Core Center (the Interdisciplinary Exposure, Disease, Genomics, and Environment Center, with a strong focus on functional genomics and molecular approaches), a Superfund Research Program, and the Northwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety. For the disaster preparedness, resilience and policy position (1), the successful applicant will have appropriate expertise in disaster-related health risk management, including policy experience related to increasing resilience in affected communities. We especially welcome candidates with a strong background in community relevant, translatable research.

For the toxicologist position (2), the successful applicant will have appropriate expertise in mechanistic toxicology with potential applications for developing biomarkers for experimental and human population studies, and techniques for understanding molecular mechanisms of chemically-related illnesses. We especially welcome candidates with a strong background in cellular and animal models using biochemical, molecular and physiological approaches.

Qualifications
Required:
A PhD degree or foreign equivalent in a relevant field.
Candidates who fail to satisfy minimum qualifications cannot be considered for this position.
