The Department of Health Behavior, School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is inviting applications for an open-rank position for those with expertise in developing and testing interventions for mental health conditions and substance use disorders. Those with experience and interest in psychedelic-assisted intervention paradigms are especially encouraged to apply, as this is an area of significant growth in the department under the leadership of Dr. Peter Hendricks.

This is a full-time faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank, tenured or tenure earning. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Social Work, Nursing, Public Health or allied fields and a strong record of scholarly work on innovative treatments for mental health conditions/substance use disorders.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent and externally funded research program with a primary focus on mental health/substance disorder treatment. While the primary role of this position will be research, the successful candidate will also be expected to foster interdisciplinary collaborations, teach courses, and participate in service activities in the School, University, and broader community.

The Department of Health Behavior conducts research and provides education and training at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral level. The undergraduate degree is a general B.S. degree in Public Health, and the department offers a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in health behavior. Our Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Behavior degree places a heavy emphasis on training in the social and behavioral sciences, as well as mastery of research methodology and its application on a range of health issues such as sexual health, obesity and lifestyle intervention, prevention and control of addictive behaviors, and mental health via a variety of methods including community-based health promotion, telehealth, and implementation science.
