Old Dominion University (ODU) is seeking a highly motivated educator and scholar for a full time, ten-month (non-tenure track) faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in the School of Exercise Science. This position involves 3 credit hours devoted to scholarship and a teaching load of 9 credit hours per semester.

While exercise science has a long history at ODU, we have recently become our own academic unit in the Ellmer College of Health Sciences which, with the integration of Eastern Virginia Medical School, is now part of the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at ODU. The ten full time faculty members in the school teach and mentor students in the B.S. and M.S. Exercise Science programs and college-wide Kinesiology and Rehabilitation doctoral program. We have well equipped research facilities that include the Integrative Cardiometabolic Lab, Human Performance Lab, Neuromechanics Lab, as well as other labs in the new Health Sciences Building. Our outreach to the community includes testing in our labs and exercise programs in the Wellness Institute & Research Center. There are many opportunities for research collaborations within the school, college, university, hospitals and military bases locally in the Hampton Roads region.

We are looking for candidates who will engage and teach our students inside and outside the classroom. Teaching responsibilities will primarily be in the B.S. Exercise Science program, with the potential to teach courses in the M.S. Exercise Science program. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to teach a range of courses across our exercise science curriculum, including but not limited to biomechanics, exercise physiology, wellness, and research methods, and have a developed line of research. Although not required as part of this role, experience in teaching and/or creation of online coursework is advantageous for possible future endeavors. The individual will be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research. Some service to the school, college, university, and profession is expected. We are committed to maintaining a diverse and stable faculty. The appointment is effective July 25, 2025.
