The Department of Prevention and Community Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University seeks a full-time tenure track or tenured Associate or Full Professor with a focus on social and behavioral quantitative research methods, research design, and/or statistical methods and analytics.

The Milken Institute School of Public Health has a large and diverse faculty with a robust research portfolio. As the only school of public health in the nation’s capital, faculty and students have a unique opportunity to work closely with government and non-governmental organizations headquartered in DC. The Department of Prevention and Community Health comprises faculty from across many disciplines, conducting both domestic and international research focused on the social determinants of health and health promotion at various social ecological levels. Faculty within the Department are funded by external research grants and contracts from a broad range of local, state and federal agencies as well as from public and private philanthropy. Along with this vibrant research environment, the Department also has a commitment to training and mentoring students, having recently launched a PhD Program in Social and Behavioral Sciences in Public Health (SBS).

Primary responsibilities include an active role in research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will: 1) pursue their own externally funded research program and provide methodological support to other faculty members in the Department, 2) teach in the PhD in SBS program, the DrPH in Health Behavior program, and/or MPH program in the Department (which has four focal areas: Maternal and Child Health; Community Oriented Primary Care; Health Promotion; and Public Health Communication and Marketing); 3) mentor and advise graduate students; 4) participate in service and committee-related activities to the Department, School, University, and candidate’s profession.

Areas of particular interest to the Department include the use of advanced research design and evaluation methods applied to the behavioral and social sciences. Examples of such methods in candidates’ research include (but are not limited to): multiphase optimization designs (e.g., The Multiphase Optimization Strategy ), Micro-randomized trial design and Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAI), cluster and pragmatic randomized trials, dynamic system modeling, system identification, meta-regression, Bayesian estimation, and social network analysis. Inclusion of multiple areas of such methodological expertise in candidates’ research and pedagogical interests will be welcome.

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a field related to social and behavioral methods with advanced methodological training. Applicants must have a proven track-record of peer-reviewed publications, demonstrated record of external funding, and prior teaching experience in the areas of social and behavioral research methods at the master’s and/or doctoral levels.
