Position Purpose:
The research-only academic is expected to contribute towards the research effort of the university and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to the particular field of research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a coherent research plan for the assigned project (CENP-Community Education and Navigation Programme for Breast cancer early detection). The study will be taken in South East Asia Community Observatory, Segamat, Malaysia. And aims to assess the acceptability and feasibility of a community-based navigation programme for early diagnosis of breast cancer, in Segamat.
  • Liaise with project investigators in Malaysia and abroad, in a timely manner.
  • Disseminate research findings through seminars, conferences, workshops and community engagement meetings.
  • Coordination and management of the assigned research project.
  • Provide support in data collector recruitment, training and supervision
  • Monitor operationalization and quality management of data collection
  • Coordinate all the research activities of the project on a day to day basis
  • Provide effective supervision of staff in the assigned project(s).
  • Coordinate resource acquisition and research management for the project
  • Timely preparation and dissemination of project reports and updates
  • Contribute to publish in high quality refereed journals in manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
  • Undertake administrative functions associated with research activities.
  • Contribute to the development of a collegial and supportive work environment.
  • Contribute to engagement with community and other stake holder of the research project and platform.
  • Foster and promote relationships with professional bodies, industry and affiliated associations, government departments, and the wider community.
  • Participate in external activities as required.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A completed PhD in public health, health care or related discipline with experience in community-based research methods. Previous experience of qualitative research methods is desirable.
  • Evidence of a record of research outputs in high quality refereed journals consistent with the discipline of an applicant.
  • Evidence of quality and impact of research outputs including journal rankings, citation indices, reputation and standing of publishing house, or equivalent esteem measures as appropriate to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with community and other stakeholders of the research project
  • Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English and able to speak one of the local languages in Malaysia (Malay, Mandarin or Tamil).
  • Experience of successful project management is desirable

    Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences

    Established in 2005, the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences reflect the increasing role of Monash in tertiary education in the Asia Pacific region.

    The school is responsible for offering the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Psychological Science and Business, Honours Degree of Bachelor of Psychological Science and Business (Psychology), Honours Degree of Bachelor of Medical Science, Master of Biomedical Science and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs.

    Delivery of the MBBS program is spread over several locations with years 1 and 2 being taught at the Monash University Malaysia in Selangor. For the purpose of execution of the main clinical Years 3,4 & 5 components, the university has set up the Clinical School Johor Bahru based in the southern state of Johor.

    The South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO) is a major new initiative of Monash University. SEACO is a University research platform managed by the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and is located in the district of Segamat in Johor.
