Assistant Professor of Anatomy

The Department of Anatomy, SIU School of Medicine, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level effective November 1, 2019. Applicants must hold an earned Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent terminal degree, in neuroscience, anatomy, physiology, basic medical sciences, medicine, or closely related field. Training and previous teaching in neuroscience and clinical neuroanatomy with research and teaching experience that includes Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is required. Teaching experience in a United States medical school or school of osteopathic medicine is also required. Training in other anatomical disciplines including Gross Anatomy, Embryology and Histology is highly preferred. Applicants must have at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience and demonstrated ability to perform independent research. Candidates who are externally funded and/or conducting research that is highly competitive for future external funding are preferred. Preferably, the candidate’s research will complement existing departmental research strengths in neuroscience, neuroanatomy, brain injury, behavior, and neuroimaging research. The candidate will also be directly involved in fostering growth of the SIU Carbondale Center for Integrative Research in Cognitive and Neural Science (CIRCNS). Opportunities for collaboration exist with several basic science and clinical department faculty in the medical school, the SIUC-CIRCNS, a Center for Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders and others across the University including the Rehabilitation Institute and the Psychology Department. The position includes a 100 percent time, 12-month, state-funded salary, research facilities and startup funds. This is a security-sensitive position. Before any offer of employment is made, the University will conduct a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check. The University has approximately 15,000 students and Carbondale is part of a vibrant community. The region enjoys a variety of organized programs and cultural opportunity for children and adults, numerous lakes, hiking trails, the Shawnee National Forest, an exquisite ‘wine trail’ and is one of the most picturesque areas of the country.
