FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Brooklyn College, a senior College of the City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications for Assistant Professor (tenure track) at the entry level in Nutrition in the Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences within the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences with a starting date in August 2022.

The School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its nine departments – Anthropology and Archaeology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer and Information Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Health and Nutrition Sciences, Math, Physics, and Psychology. The Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences (HNSC) is home to 17 full-time faculty as well as expert staff who are committed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in professional their careers. HNSC is an interdisciplinary department with distinct degree programs in health and nutrition, and an ongoing interest in pursuing linkages between both. It is our mission to provide high quality, multidisciplinary teaching, research, and community service to foster an environment of academic excellence and professionalism for students and faculty; advance scientific knowledge relevant to health and nutrition and ensure that all students acquire the knowledge, skills, and values to make meaningful contributions. We currently offer a BA in HNSC with concentrations in Community Health Education and Thanatology, and BS programs in HNSC with concentrations in Public Health, Health Science, Thanatology and an CEND accredited BS in Foods and Nutrition (DPD), a BS in Health Sciences, and a BS in Public Health. We have recently added a BS program, formerly in the Department of Kinesiology, with concentrations in Pre-Health Professions (emphasis on Exercise Science) and Fitness Professional. At the graduate level we offer an MA in Community Health with concentrations in Community Health, Food and Health Equity, and Thanatology, an MS in Nutrition, and an ACEND accredited Dietetic Internship.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach and develop curricula for undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Develop and maintain a research agenda in the field of Nutrition.
  • Conduct student advisement and research mentoring.
  • Share responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other related functions.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required

  • Ph.D. in Nutrition or a related field
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications
  • Success in working with people from diverse backgrounds in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment

Preferred

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential with practice experience
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: clinical nutrition, food studies, community nutrition

COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with experience and credentials at the entry level. All appointments are subject to financial availability.
