Research Dietitian – Dietary Assessment Unit, Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging – (20001440)
The Dietary Assessment Unit (DAU) at the HNRCA is a core unit that provides dietary assessment services within the HNRCA as well as in collaboration with Tufts and outside institutions. The DAU provides expertise and services in dietary data collection methods, coding, data cleaning and management and dietary data analysis for projects ranging from small HNRCA intervention studies to larger multidisciplinary protocols to existing dietary data sets. The unit assists in the development of dietary intervention sections of new protocols, advises on dietary data collection methodology, develops necessary manuals of procedures and nutrition-related materials and works to create new methodology to improve the collection of dietary data. The DAU provides a centralized, consistent and high standard dietary data collection service across the HNRCA. The Metabolic Research Unit (MRU) is one of the core services directed toward facilitating and supporting the clinical aspects of data collection with human subjects for the HNRCA’s research laboratories. It consists of three distinct but very interdependent divisions: Nursing, Volunteer Services and Nutrition Services. Nutrition Services designs and implements research study diets through the production, preparation, and delivery of specific research study meals.
The Research Dietitian will be responsible for administration, collection and review of dietary assessment tools for multiple protocols. This includes food records, 24 hour recalls and food frequency questionnaires. The Research Dietitian will also assist with data entry/coding and quality control checks of dietary data collected by the DAU. In addition, the Research Dietitian will assist the DAU/MRU Manager in the following: maintenance of the DAU calendar; DAU-related literature searches; development and validation of new dietary assessment tools as required with new protocols; and assist with training. This position will also provide support/backup to the MRU Dietary Services Supervisor. This includes assistance in the following: dietary screening of study participants for various research protocols; administering protocol-specific instructions/dietary guidance to active study participants; development and implementation of research diets; management of dietary data collected by MRU.
BS in Dietetics or equivalent.
Registered Dietitian (RD).
1-2 years of experience in a research setting.
MS Office, Medline/Pubmed, familiarity with nutrition assessment databases.
Strong verbal communication skills. Interacts well with others.
Ability to obtain ServSafe and CITI training to work with human subjects within one month of start date.
Massachusetts License for Dietitians/Nutritionists (LDN).
Experience with Nutrition Data Systems for Research (NDSR) or similar food analysis program and familiarity with US food items and food patterns.
Master’s degree in Nutrition or related field and 2+ years of research experience.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7am-3pm. This position may occasionally require work on evenings and/or weekends as determined by study need.
