Temple University’s College of Public Health is leading a new movement to reimagine the future of public health. Through transdisciplinary research and interprofessional education, our students, staff and faculty embrace public health as a catalyst for individual and community change in pursuit of the common good. Under the leadership of Dr. Resa M. Jones, a nationally recognized behavioral cancer epidemiologist, we are expanding the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and seek experienced and early career researchers to join the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

We value diversity and seek individuals committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary, community-engaged research in epidemiology and experiential training programs. Researchers in all content areas are encouraged to apply. Areas of specific research growth in the Department include cancer prevention and control as well as cross-cutting areas such as social epidemiology/determinants, spatial epidemiology/statistics, and statistical methods for community-based interventions and multilevel interventions.

The Department. Faculty conduct funded research in several areas, especially behavioral and chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention and control, infectious diseases, obesity prevention, reproductive epidemiology, and water-related diseases. The Department enrolls more than 200 graduate students in courses and offers a PhD in Epidemiology and MPH degrees in Epidemiology, Applied Biostatistics, and Environmental Health, and MS degrees in Epidemiology and Clinical and Translational Medicine. The Department contributes to the College’s nationally recognized BS in Public Health.

The College. Epidemiology and Biostatistics is one of 9 academic units of public health, health profession, and social work disciplines enrolling 4,600 students in in 8 undergraduate and 28 graduate degree programs. The College, fully accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health as a school of public health, has seen remarkable growth and organizational expansion in configuration of programs, interprofessional education, research funding, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics is an active participant in the College’s research portfolio that includes behavioral, social and environmental inquiries, medical interventions, and basic science. Particular research strengths include obesity, cancer, mental health, aphasia and other language disorders, HIV/AIDS, organ and tissue donation, and aging. In addition, a new Center focused on Community Engaged Research and Practice is being launched. 
The College has the highest level of extramural funding per faculty member and second highest total research dollars among the 17 schools and colleges at Temple University. Much of this research support comes from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense as well as a wide range of foundations. College faculty collaborate with the Center for Public Health Law Research, the Center for Obesity Research and Education, Fox Chase Cancer Center, the Temple University Health System and other area health care systems as well as public health agencies.

The University. Temple University is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. Temple is the 6th largest provider of professional education in the nation and includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Law, and Dentistry in addition to research centers including the NCI-designated Fox Chase Cancer Center.

Qualifications. A doctorate in epidemiology or related field is required. Those with a strong background in epidemiologic methods and applied epidemiology are especially encouraged to apply. For early career applicants, preferred candidates are individuals currently holding the rank of assistant professor or persons completing or having recently completed a postdoctoral position. Midcareer or senior applicants should have an active, externally-funded research portfolio and research record appropriate to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Cluster hiring of research teams including senior and early career faculty is encouraged.
