The Division of Physical Activity and Weight Management supports research, training and clinical endeavors for the prevention and treatment of obesity and promotion of physical activity in children and adults. Interests include nutrition, physical activity, metabolic syndrome, intervention delivery, mHealth, cognition, special populations, rural health, and others. Currently, the Division has 8 funded R01 projects from the National Institutes of Health to investigate weight management or the promotion of physical activity in a variety of different population including elementary schools, individuals living in rural communities, adults with Alzheimer’s disease, adults with physical disabilities, and adolescents and adults with intellectual disabilities. In addition, since 1986 the Division has maintained an ongoing clinical treatment program termed the Kansas Weight Management Program designed to provide weight loss and weight maintenance for adults.
