The School of Health Professions, Department of Clinical and Diagnostic invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair. He or she will have an established record of academic excellence, mentoring, and scientific leadership. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability and ongoing desire to actively engage across academic and community boundaries as well as explore new partnerships and programs. Reporting to the Dean, the chair is responsible for the vision, leadership, and administration of the educational, research, service, and clinical practice programs, including evaluating and developing faculty and staff, fiscal planning, and strategic planning and goal setting for the Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences in concert with the School, University, strategic plans. The Chair will provide key leadership in the growth and expansion of the School’s stature as a leader in the profession locally and globally. The Chair collaborates with the Associate Deans, other Department Chairs and Program Coordinators to advance the strategic plan of the SHP and UAB in a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment.
The Department of Clinical Diagnostic Sciences is preparing and advancing students in over a dozen graduate and undergraduate programs in health professions. Academic offerings at the graduate level include but are not limited to Biomedical and Health Sciences, Biotechnology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Genetic Counseling and Physician Assistant Studies. Undergraduate offerings include three BS to MS fast track programs. The Department has nearly 30 full time faculty members and more than 1000 staff and students.
The department chair will hold a full time, 12-month, tenured or tenure track faculty position. Qualified candidates may be considered for tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor. Candidates may come from a range of health services disciplines, and will hold a Doctoral degree. Competitive compensation offered commensurate with qualifications and experience. The preferred candidate will have experience in an academic administrative leadership role. The successful candidate will possess a strong research portfolio, a vision for the education, research, and service mission and effectively communicate and collaborate with others.
