    Position Summary
    Affect Regulation Training (ART) for Alcohol Use Disorder: A Stage II Efficacy Trial’. This study explores the usefulness of providing emotion regulation skills as part of standard CBT treatment for people with alcohol use disorders, and operates under the supervision of clinical research scientists Paul R. Stasiewicz, Ph.D. and Clara Bradizza, Ph.D.

    • Provide individual cognitive-behavioral therapy following a treatment manual, which includes coping skills and other evidence-based tools that support reaching and maintaining abstinence from alcohol.

    • Establish and maintain a therapeutic helping relationship characterized by warmth, respect, genuineness, and empathy.

    • Facilitate the client’s engagement in the treatment and recovery process.

    • Access clinical supervision as needed.

    • Actively attempt to re-engage clients who have missed appointments when clinically appropriate.

    • Participate in staff meetings and designated trainings.

    • Follow project related procedures, including streamlined documentation requirements, and other tasks as assigned.

    The Counselor/Therapist will be an employee of the Research Foundation for SUNY. This grant-supported position has anticipated funding through March 31, 2021.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field. Approved licensures include LMHC, LCSW-R, LCSW, and LMSW.

    • Two years of post-Master’s verified paid experience providing individual psychotherapy or counseling services to adults.

    • Experience with addictions required. Internship experience completed as part of a license-eligible degree program may be counted toward this requirement.

    • Strong sensitivity to diverse populations, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous experience conducting therapy through the use of a treatment manual highly desirable.

    • Two years of experience conducting clinical research treatment of alcohol use disordered individuals preferred.
