  • Senior Research Support Specialist
    Ophthalmology

    Position Summary
    As a Senior Research Support Specialist, you will:

    • conduct molecular biological, biochemical, and biophysical experiments in a project
    • develop a gene-based therapy for a hereditary retinal degeneration
    • conduct animal experiments (mice, possibly pigs) to test the efficacy and toxicity of the gene based therapy
    • analyze data from such experiments and conduct statistical analysis
    • assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and grant proposals
    • assist in the training of graduate students
    • assist in maintaining safety protocols for the lab, ordering consumables, and general lab process maintenance

    Minimum Qualifications
    B.S. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Biophysics, Bioengineering, or related disciplines. Minimum of 5 years experience working productively in a research laboratory. Moderate to extensive experience working with animal models, especially mice. Evidence of authored publication of research in the field(s) of expertise.

    Preferred Qualifications
    M.S. or Ph.D. qualifications are preferred.

    Experience with fine surgical manipulations is preferred.

    Physical Demands
    Molecular biology laboratory with standard physical experimental demands ranging from fine scale micropipetting to moving materials (e.g., ice buckets, small boxes under 20 LBS). Working with and handling small animals (mice).
