  • Assistant Professor, Duquesne-China Health Institute
    John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences - Duquesne-China Health Institute

    The Duquesne-China Health Institute (DCHI) in the John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences is seeking a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor who will also serve as the Assistant Director of the DCHI. Start Date: January 3, 2022. Salary is competitive.

    The DCHI at Duquesne University offers unique academic programs with Master Degrees and a Ph.D. in Health Science Degree. The Master Degrees focus on the areas of Physical Therapy including general practice in Physical Therapy as well as specialized areas of study (e.g., orthopaedic, neuro PT, pediatric PT. pelvic flooring, and cardiopulmonary), Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    -Teach 4 - 5 DCHI graduate courses and 1 - 2 lab sections of graduate courses as assigned
    -Advise, mentor and supervise student research and doctoral capstone projects
    -Advise, mentor and supervise visiting scholar and student research development
    -Pursue leadership and service opportunities in the DCHI, School, University and profession
    -Engage in scholarly productivity in the area relevant to the practice of Physical Therapy or Speech-Language Pathology

    Working with the DCHI Executive Director the Assistant Director will:
    -make curriculum changes as needed and identify qualified/expert instructors for teaching following the requirements of our Chinese partners to meet their desired programmatic outcomes
    -draft proposals, documents and stimulants for sustaining and expanding the DCHI
    ensure successful execution of clinical shadowing observation space and field activity management
    -assist in the hiring process for qualified instructors
    -work with the Executive Director of the DCHI and the Rangos Dean to identify and advocate for space
    -facilitate a positive and productive work relationship with all parties involved in the DCHI and communicates with Executive Director while the Executive Director is traveling, and
    -support the Executive Director with policy management to keep pace with policy changes in China


    -Certification as a Physical Therapist or Speech-Language Pathologist and eligibility for PA Licensure
    -A minimum of Master's degree or higher in physical therapy or bachelor of science in physical therapy with a master's degree in a related field
    -Understanding and sensitivity of this program which is tightly tailored around the culture and societal needs of China
    -A rounded skill set that can be applied to a wide range of clinical populations
    -A demonstrated record of, or potential for, effective teaching in a variety of instructional formats
    -Evidence of, or potential for excellent teaching and proficiency in scholarship

    Preferred Qualifications:

    -Earned doctorate (DPT, or equivalent) or Ph.D. in Communication Disorders with preparation to engage in scholarship. Applicants in dissertation phase will be considered.
    -Evidence of scholarly productivity
    -Preferences will be given to applicants with established traditions of leadership, teaching excellence, and cultural sensitivity and enthusiasm of embracing multicultural diversities


    -Work on campus whose University-wide mission is highly congruent with our PT and SLP professions and teaching and scholarship are both valued
    -Participate in the delivery of a clinical doctoral program
    -Collaborate with faculty to enhance our practice scholar reputation nationally and internationally
