    Job Summary


    The Simulation and Technology Specialist will perform variety of duties to ensure the operation and maintenance of all technologies on the Natchez campus. The simulation and Technologies specialist will provide technical training and support for all technologies deployed on the Natchez campus.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities


    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited or university in Computer Science or related field is required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in an IT support role is preferred. Must have working knowledge of web-based applications. Previous experience supporting a clinical simulation learning environments and human simulator technology is preferred. Excellent communication, organizational, and technical skills are required.




    Essential Job Functions


    The essentials job functions include:



      • Serve as stimulator operator by programming, testing and running scenarios



     


    with faculty, ensuring that the facility and equipment are set up for teaching sessions.


    • Participate in event and scenario planning meetings to provide technical expertise on capabilities and limitations of equipment and facilities to meet course needs.

    • Understand the use and operation of different stimulator technologies ranging from task trainers to full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators.

    • Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, repair and replacement needs for all equipment, to include computers and software applications utilized in the School of Nursing.

    • Acquire digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to record simulated sessions with subsequent editing and transfer into an archival format for analysis.

    • Provide technical support for computer based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, monitors, LCD projectors and other equipment.

    • Support the use of digital media and web stream creation for educational and professional


    distribution, distribute content and back up data, and provide advanced troubleshooting.


    • Maintain proficiency in existing ad emerging technologies.

    • Serve as primary contact with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and systems problem; maintain record of repairs.

    • Conduct routine equipment maintenance, inventory updates and equipment purchases.

    • Install software and hardware upgrades and maintain functionality of manikin components as directed by manufacturer support.

    • Supervise preventative maintenance of equipment according to manufacturers’ recommendations.

    • Monitor scheduled maintenance of ensure that equipment is operational.

    • Work with manufacturers or vendors to correct equipment deficiencies and maintain system in order to minimize down time.

    • Evaluate new equipment, and identify opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education.

    • Instruct faculty and Skills Lab Coordinator in the operational aspects o simulation.

    • Provide communication feedback to the Dean and facility, technology, equipment, operational and other needs identified for overall maintenance and program functioning.

    • Assist with other special projects or initiatives, as needed.

    • Oversee and implement the technology for clinical skills teaching and research in the Virtual and Clinical Laboratories.

    • Collect data to support research as appropriate.

    • Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty, students, and staff.

    • Participate in technical training as necessary; attend conferences to stay current with stimulation technology.

    • Engage in available opportunities to share information and best practices externally (e.g., as presenter or panelist at industry conferences and events), develop and maintain relationships with simulation specialists to engage in collaborative problem solving and innovation.

    • Support the short-, intermediate-, and long-term teaching, research and operational goals of the School of Nursing.

    • Identify and participate in coordination of facility and operational improvement.

    • Conduct facility tours; participate in events providing exposure and insight to the program.

    • Actively participate in strategic action plan and program improvement initiatives.

    • Assist with or lead other special projects or initiatives as needed.

    Licensing and Certifications


    Certified Healthcare Simulation Operation Specialist certificate preferred.
