    Overview


    NOTE: this is a 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week), and the position is remote.


    The University Occupational Health Services (OHS) provides work-related medical services to Tufts employees to prevent and minimize health risks at the university. In addition, Tufts OHS provides technical input to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), the Institutional Chemical Safety Committee (ICSC), and the Institutional Radiation Safety Committee (IRSC).


     


    Primary Resonsibilities 


    • Prepare for and attend safety meetings such as the Institutional Biosafety Committee, the IACUC, the Institutional Chemical Safety Committee, and the Institutional Radiation Safety Committee. Contribute recommendations on optimal worker surveillance protocols and protections. The NP is expected to review research protocols and present Tufts OHS inputs at relevant meetings.
    • Assess the needs of personnel, including external clients, as they are onboarded into research positions or added to research registrations, protocols, and permits.
    • Conduct virtual follow-up after research-related and clinical-related exposures and injuries, as indicated.
    • Provide employees with virtual vaccine consultations, toxicology consultations, and general workplace and research-specific safety education.
    • Provide medical clearance for researchers—review questionnaires, track compliance, coordinate with other Tufts and OHS nurses who provide clearance.
    • In collaboration with Biosafety, write and update all university Exposure Response Plans and other OHS policies as directed by the Associate Director.
    • Work closely with Biosafety, Chemical Safety, and other laboratory safety staff to ensure the needs of the researchers, animal care staff, and other personnel working in or entering research spaces are met.
    • Collaborate with safety, regulatory, and compliance leadership within the Office of the Vice Provost for Research to propose, develop, or implement new or revised occupational health initiatives and educational materials as needs arise.
    • Serve as a resource to other staff in OHS regarding research-related occupational health needs.
    • Provide medical clearance for those in medical surveillance groups (such as respiratory protection programs), perform workplace exposure evaluations and develop treatment plans, prescribe appropriate medications, and provide health assessments.
    • Develop and provide virtual training to researchers, as needed.


    Administrative responsibilities include using the electronic medical record system; scheduling; maintaining documentation that meets clinic standards; documenting clearances of external clients; and facilitating billing of external clients for occupational health services. Communicate with managers and School leadership, Human Resources, Risk Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Biosafety, Lab Animal Medicine, Radiation Safety, and Chemical Safety staff.

    Participate in regular clinical meetings, committees and working groups assigned by the Executive Medical Director or Associate Director of OHS. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Medical Director or Associate Director of OHS. 



    What You'll Do


    The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works under the supervision of the Associate Director of OHS and the Executive Medical Director of OHS to promote a safe, healthy work environment at Tufts University. The primary responsibility is to participate in and represent Tufts OHS on institutional safety committees, provide guidance around health issues affecting researchers, animal care staff, and other personnel who work in or enter research spaces, and work closely with key stakeholders such as safety, regulatory, and compliance leadership within the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, chairs of institutional research oversight committees, and others.


    Medical surveillance and committee work will be performed under the direction of and in collaboration with the Associate Director and the Executive Medical Director of Tufts OHS. The position will be remote.


     


    What We're Looking For


    Basic Requirements:



    • Knowledge and experience typically acquired by obtaining a Masters of Science degree in Nursing 

    • Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in Massachusetts.

    • Must have 5 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

    • Experience as an Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner is required.

    • Experience in an academic or industry research-related occupational health setting is required.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

    • Excellence in presentation and teaching skills is required

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Massachusetts workers’ compensation law, HIPAA, OSHA, ADA, and FMLA requirements is required.

    • Knowledge of and familiarity with working with electronic medical record systems is required.

    • Knowledge of Enterprise Health is highly desirable.

    • Must be credentialed by Tufts University prior to starting work.



    Pay Range

    Minimum $103,950.00, Midpoint $129,950.00, Maximum $156,000.00

    Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
