  • Assistant Professor in Waterborne Epidemiology

    The Department of Population Medicine within the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph invites applications for a  tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position forms part of a cluster hire and the successful candidate will work closely with others around campus to develop an internationally recognized research program on the surveillance and control of waterborne pathogens and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The anticipated start date for this appointment is August 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025.


     


    A PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health (or equivalent) and a demonstrated track record of research in water-based epidemiological studies and strong quantitative epidemiological skills are required.  Experience with waterborne pathogens and/or AMR data analysis and interpretation is desired.  Knowledge of molecular subtyping methods for pathogens and/or the determinants of AMR and experience with the mathematical modeling of disease transmission are preferred. Experience in data science, machine learning, or health analytics are considered assets.  A DVM would also be considered an asset.  The successful candidate will work with the existing Epidemiology faculty team in the provision of undergraduate and graduate epidemiological training and in the development of potential new graduate programs such as Health Informatics. 


     


    The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong communications and collaboration skills and will use these skills to develop networks across broad communities of experts, effectively collaborating with faculty from multiple disciplines. This forms part of a cluster hire and the successful candidate will bring their expertise in epidemiology to codevelop an internationally recognized research program on the surveillance and control of waterborne pathogens and AMR.  The candidate will be expected to develop a productive, independent, and collaborative research program with other faculty within and outside the department. Departmental research focus includes public health, One Health, epidemiology, health management, and communications. Related peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations and a demonstrated ability to generate research funds to support graduate student training to the MSc, and doctoral levels (PhD or DVSc) will ensure the successful candidate will be an effective faculty member with the Department of Population Medicine.
