    California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks a tenure track faculty for an academic year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. CSUSM has become one of the fastest growing campuses in the CSU system.  When completed (projected for 2030) the CSUSM campus will accommodate 25,000 full-time students on a 304-acre campus.     About the Department: 


    The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, San Marcos creates an environment of innovative research, student-centered learning, and effective community engagement in movement and health. Our vision is to become a leader in the study of movement and health by promoting meaningful student achievement, impactful research, and valuable contributions to our communities. The department consists of 12 tenure-track faculty, 15 lecturers, and over 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Areas of research excellence include environmental and occupational physiology, cardiometabolic and perceptual responses to intermittent exercise, pedagogy and mindfulness, exercise-drug interactions, augmented reality, health education and promotion, gait, and influence of load carriage on biomechanics and motor control. Facilities for teaching and research include two exercise physiology labs, a virtual reality lab, motor learning lab, biomechanics lab, phlebotomy space, and a swim flume.  Equipment includes metabolic carts, DXA, BodPod, treadmills, cycle ergometers, physical activity monitors, motion capture systems, bioimpedance analysis devices, thoracic impedance cardiography, instrumented treadmills, and an augmented reality treadmill. 


     


    THE POSITION:  One tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level is available for individuals with strong background in kinesiology with a specialization in Biomechanics, Motor Control, Injury Rehabilitation, Health, Public Health, or Movement Pedagogy. Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in teaching and potential for excellence in research related to their areas of expertise. Individuals are encouraged to describe all areas for which they have demonstrated expertise.   


     


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:



    • An earned doctorate (e.g., PhD) in Kinesiology or a related field is required.

    • Applicants with ABD (All But Dissertation) status will be considered; Ph.D. must be completed before employment start date.

    • The candidate should have a demonstrated record of success in teaching and research commensurate with the qualifications for Assistant Professor at CSUSM.

    • The candidate should also have evidence of potential for success in teaching to undergraduate students.

    • Experience in teaching, research or other creative activities, and the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus is required.

    • Candidate must have experience working with college level students and practical experience in preparing manuscripts and grant proposals. 


     


    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:



    • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in Kinesiology and teach graduate level courses.

    • Ability to collaborate with other faculty.

    • Evidence of ability to develop and sustain an independent research program leading to original, peer-reviewed publications.

    • Teach courses in Biomechanics, Motor Control, Injury Rehabilitation, Health, Public Health and/or Movement Pedagogy for all Kinesiology undergraduate majors (including potential for graduate level courses). 

    • Assist with offering courses Statistics and Research Methods at the graduate and undergraduate level.

    • Serve on graduate thesis committees.

    • Contribute to program and curriculum development.


    Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $6,667 - $7,083 per month 


    CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,405 - $11,994 per month
