The UAMS College of Nursing, established in 1953, is committed to scholarly excellence in (1) undergraduate and graduate nursing education, (2) research, and (3) service to the University, profession, and society. The College enhances access to education in this rural, agrarian state by offering degree programs and courses for nurses through distance-education modalities and through clinical affiliation agreements with health care facilities around the state. The College of Nursing offers baccalaureate (BSN and RN-to-BSN), masters, post-graduate certificate, and doctoral (DNP, PhD) programs with an enrollment of approximately 600 undergraduate and graduate students. UAMS educates the largest number of graduate nursing students in the state and offers the only PhD in nursing program in Arkansas.

The UAMS College of Nursing advances the body of nursing knowledge through scholarship in research. This community of scholars contributes to nursing science through research activities that are theory testing, theory generating, and of an applied or basic research nature. Focus areas include oncology, cardiovascular health, mental health/addiction, older adult health, rural and health disparities, and lifestyle interventions. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research, the primary responsibility of this position includes working with College leadership to develop the Oncology Research Cluster for the College of Nursing (CON). This will involve building a research portfolio for the cluster, mentoring junior faculty associated with this research focus in the College, and participating in research vision and strategy building with other research leaders in the CON to meet College and institutional research goals and metrics. The successful candidate will teach a minimum of one course per semester in the PhD program, mentor graduate students, and serve on PhD dissertation committees. Faculty and student research is supported through UAMS and College of Nursing intramural grants, and through extramural funding from NIH, HRSA, private foundations, and professional organizations.

The service mission of the UAMS College of Nursing involves participation of faculty and students in academic, professional, and community organizations, as well as scholarly practice. Faculty practice as skilled clinicians, consultants, and professional experts in health care organizations and in the community. The College of Nursing encompasses approximately 37,000 square feet on the Little Rock campus of UAMS, including learning laboratories, a Simulation Center, classrooms with interactive video networking capabilities, conference rooms, and offices for administrators, faculty, and staff.
