The Department of Biology at Westmont College invites applications for a tenure-track teaching and research position as an assistant professor in a dynamic department with inquisitive, talented, and diverse undergraduate students. An earned PhD at the time of appointment is required, and post-doctoral research experience is preferred.

We seek candidates in either of the following areas of disciplinary specialty: 
(1) plant ecology and evolution, conservation biology, and/or restoration ecology or 
(2) cellular and molecular biology. 

Teaching assignments for (1) could include an introductory biology course, Plant Ecology/Classification, and Conservation Biology; a strong interest in programmatic involvement in our growing interdisciplinary environmental studies program is also desirable. 

Teaching assignments for (2) could include an introductory biology course, Cell Biology, and an upper-division course in an area of disciplinary focus. 

Candidates should be prepared to pursue a robust research program that will engage undergraduate students both during the semester as well as in a 10-week summer research experience. The Department of Economics and Business at Westmont College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant rank in Economics and Business to begin in August 2024. Candidates should have an MBA and a PhD or DBA in business from an AACSB-accredited business school. A minimum of 2-3 years teaching experience is preferred. The candidate should have a demonstrated proficiency in teaching and doing research in management and/or marketing in a Christian liberal arts context.

Teaching responsibilities include a lower-division course in management and upper-division courses in marketing and other business electives such as Contemporary Business Issues, Business Strategy, Marketing Research, and Advertising and Brand Promotion. Candidates are also expected to engage in research in the business field and mentor undergraduate research.

The Department of Education and Liberal Studies at Westmont College invites applications for a tenure-track position in education, to begin August 2024. The position requires a relevant doctorate (PhD or EdD) by time of appointment. Candidates must have a minimum of three years full-time K-12 public school teaching experience, with a strong preference for experience in elementary education. Area of specialization is relatively open, but strengths in literacy, second language acquisition, and/or special education are of particular interest. Experience with accreditation and state and national standards for the profession is a plus.

Candidates must be willing to develop a range of classes in a small student-centered program, and have demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and intensively with a small team of departmental colleagues. Normal teaching load includes three four-unit classes or equivalent student teaching supervision per semester. Ability to contribute to the larger mission of a Christian liberal arts institution, to build relationships with local K-12 schools, and to pursue an independent scholarly agenda essential. The Department of English at Westmont College invites applications for an Americanist with interests in Latin America and/or the Caribbean. This is a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, to begin August 2024. The position requires expertise in one or more areas in literatures of the Americas, with preferred interest in 20th- and 21st-century writers. Candidates who adopt comparative approaches between nations, or who focus on translations between English and other languages (or vice versa), are especially welcome to apply. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 3/3 load (24 units per year), which will include upper- and lower-division literature and writing courses. Texts from Latin America and/or the Caribbean should be taught in English translation, although we welcome teaching and research that critiques the work of translation. All colleagues in the English Department regularly teach introductory Writing for the Liberal Arts (Composition) courses. 

Minimum qualifications: (1) an earned Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, American Studies, or another appropriate field by the date of appointment; (2) a record of an active research agenda with specialization in two of these three areas: (a) U.S. literature (particularly Latinx, Native American, or Asian American literature), (b) Latin American literature, (c) Caribbean Literature; (3) a demonstrated commitment to excellence in the college-level teaching of literature as well as composition; (4) a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, research, and/or service. 

Preferred additional qualifications: (1) interest in interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching; (2) interest in contributing to interdisciplinary minors, such as Global Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, Environmental Studies, and/or Writing; (3) interest in developing courses for Westmont’s general education requirement in Justice, Reconciliation, and Diversity on Biblical and Theological Grounds; (4) interest in leading off-campus study programs.

Minimum qualifications: (1) an earned PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or another appropriate field by the date of appointment (or an MFA with significant teaching and publication record); (2) a record of an active research agenda with specialization in composition/rhetoric; (3) a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, research, and/or service.

The Department of Nursing at Westmont College seeks a collaborative and energetic tenure-track faculty member to serve as professor (open rank) and assistant director of our new Accelerated BSN program.  Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about the Christian mission of the college, committed to grounding the program in the liberal arts, and excited about teaching and supporting our diverse nursing students. 

The Assistant Program Director, along with the Program Director, is responsible and accountable for the coordination, direction, fiscal planning, and all activities involved in developing, implementing, and managing the nursing program.  They will have supervisory responsibility over all faculty (full and part-time) and should have extensive knowledge of the best practices in nursing education coupled with a creative spirit to encourage innovation in pedagogy.

Carrying a 0.5 teaching load (teaching load is 24units/year/three semesters), they will teach in their areas of expertise and certification.
