The College of Health Sciences at the University of Doha for Science and Technology invites applications for a full-time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Assistant Professor position in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to our esteemed Masters degree program in Diabetes Care and Patient Education. Responsibilities

The Department of Diabetes Care and Patient Education offers a unique Master program in Diabetes Care and Patient Education that is designed to equip healthcare professionals with evidence-based knowledge and skills to deliver high quality care to people living with diabetes in the State of Qatar. The program utilizes the International Diabetes Federation standards in diabetes education. It is guided by Qatar National Diabetes Strategy pillars and associated objectives as well as Qatar Public Health Strategy. The courses detail various topics that include, but are not limited to: understanding and managing diabetes and its complications, diabetes care in special populations, the multidisciplinary approach, teaching and learning practices, and improved critical appraisal of research studies. The practicum component of the program is designed to enable learners to apply the theoretical concepts in a workplace environment.

 

The program courses reference reputable national and international practice guidelines such as the National Clinical Guidelines of the State of Qatar, Diabetes Canada (formerly known as the Canadian Diabetes Association), the American Diabetes Association, the American Association of Diabetes Educators, and the United Kingdom National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning materials in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism for the Masters degree program.
  • Supervise and mentor students in their research projects and clinical placements.
  • Develop and update the curriculum to ensure it reflects the latest developments in diabetes care and patient education.
  • Engage in scholarly activities leading to publications in reputable journals and presentations at conferences.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of teaching practices and academic standards within the College of Health Sciences.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and organizations to enhance the practical learning experience of students.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

Faculty members will be placed in the appropriate rank based on their education and experience. The broad criteria are noted below.

 

For Assistant and Associate Professor

 

Education

  • MD or MBBS in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.

 

Experience

  • Demonstrated record of research and publications in the field.
  • Experience in teaching in and mentoring at the university level, preferably in diabetes care and patient education. 
  • Demonstrated competence with curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated use diverse and current teaching approaches in the classroom and for practice experiences including labs.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of educational technology and platforms.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have supervised graduate and postgraduate student theses in the field.
  • Experience in serving on Faculty committees.

Scholarship and Research

  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Successful research grants.
  • Supervision of graduate and postgraduate student theses in the field.
  • Presentation in international conferences.

Other required skills

  • Commitment to applied and experiential learning as a pedagogy and a key feature of UDST’s mandate.
  • Ability to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in program outcomes.
  • Digital literacy and demonstrated fluency in technology systems, and an ability to model and facilitate use of current and emerging digital tools to support research and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable students to be active participants in their own learning.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
