Gerhart’s primary research interests lie within strength and conditioning and environmental physiology. His doctoral dissertation, “Acute effects of normobaric hypoxia and cold water hand immersion on thermoregulatory response and cognitive function,” is currently under review. Other publications include “Autonomic modulation in older women: using resistance exercise as a countermeasure” (International Journal of Exercise Science) and “A moderate-intensity functional exercise intervention for individuals with Dementia: Acceptability and feasibility” (Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy), among others. Gerhart specializes in recognizing both acute and chronic effects of exercise in diseased populations, recreational exercisers, and tactical/special operations personnel.
