Dr Netto's primary interest concerns the musculoskeletal load when stressors such as heat, cold, shock, vibration or movement restriction are experienced. He has investigated the effect military body armour has on human performance as well as neck injuries sustained by fighter pilots. His current work includes maintaining the occupational health and safety of volunteer bushfire fighters, understanding the effect overland travel has on Australian Defence personnel, examining fatigue experienced by manufacturing and cleaning workers and quantifying the in-field demands of team sport athletes using micro-technology. Dr Netto frequently advices local council, industry and government departments about the musculoskeletal demand of physically challenging work to better facilitate a reduction in injury and an increase in productivity
