Program Director of Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Communication Sciences and Disorders program (CSD) at the Penn State University-Harrisburg campus invites applications for a full-time (9-month) Associate Professor or Assistant Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders who will also serve as Program Director with a start date of August 2024.

Demonstrated experience as a Program Director, evidence of eligibility for tenure, and a sustained record of excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship are required. The CSD Program also shares a strong collaboration with the Dept. of Otolaryngology at Hershey Medical Center and the desired candidate will have a strong vision for how to best utilize this collaborative resource to its fullest.

The CSD program currently offers an undergraduate degree but has begun the process of starting an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology. Thus, the new Program Director will be responsible for developing the graduate SLP curriculum, conducting faculty searches, and guiding the CSD program through the accreditation process.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology or a field closely related to CSD (e.g., Audiology, Hearing Science, Speech Science).
  • Sufficient publications and research experience to qualify as a member of the graduate faculty at Penn State.
  • Evidence of leadership in a university setting.
  • Evidence of sustained service in a university setting as well as to the profession.
  • Evidence of sustained excellence in teaching at the university level.
  • Evidence of sustained scholarship.
  • Evidence of knowledge of the accreditation process.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in either Speech-Language or Audiology.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with interprofessional and/or interdisciplinary education.
  • Clinical experience.
  • Budgetary management.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with external/extramural funding.

A longer research and leadership record (at least five years in tenured or tenure-track service in the discipline) will be required for the rank of Associate Professor.
