As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology. Working closely with the education of graduate biomedical science (BMS) students seeking a Master’s of Science degree within MU-WCOM. The Assistant/Associate Professor will promote Marian University’s Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by providing classroom instructions that allow learners to acquire a competence with the fundamental concepts and facts related to the cellular and molecular make up of microorganisms, especially those pathogenic for humans, their interactions with the host defenses human beings and their mechanisms of pathogenicity and the effects on populations. Approaches to treatment and prevention of infectious disease as well as host immune responses against disease are within the scope of this discipline. This faculty member will provide expertise in microbiology and immunology using skills and experience to oversee assigned parts of the graduate curriculum. Teaching and the course director responsibilities will include the Medical Microbiology and Immunology courses in the MU-WCOM BMS program and will be guided by the program objectives. Pursuit of an appropriate research agenda and mentorship of students in research is also part of the faculty responsibility at MU-WCOM. Responsibilities of this position also include service work on faculty committees within BMS program, MU-WCOM, and Marian University as well as guiding the academic progress of student advisees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
Faculty members of the MU-WCOM who provide training in microbiology and immunology contribute to the mission and success of the college and the success of its students through excellent teaching, scholarly activity and service to the University and community.
Faculty participate in the development, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the curriculum
Supervise and direct active learning by the students in microbiology and immunology courses
Contribute to the development of curriculum and engage in continuous improvement of the curriculum
Prepare and deliver lectures and other learning activities in areas of the candidates expertise
Develop learning evaluations that align with the principles extant in the WCOM such as board-style MCQ
Participate in faculty development activities, especially those that foster best educational practices and incorporate active learning methods
Develop and pursue scholarly activity (broadly understood) in the candidate’s area of interest commensurate with the mission and goals of MU-WCOM
As appropriate, engage in publication, grant seeking activity
Contribute to the service obligations of MU-WCOM by service on committees, course direction and other assignments
Other duties are assigned

Required Qualifications:

The candidate will need to have a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology or a related field and have demonstrated expertise in these areas that would support teaching at the graduate level.
Teaching experience serving as a course director and ability to teach in a large group setting is desired.
Mentorship pf graduate students doing research would be possible and service on thesis committees is encouraged.
