Overview

The mission of the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (HNRCA) is to promote healthy aging through nutrition science to empower people seeking to enjoy long, active, and independent lives. HNRCA investigators conduct the world's most advanced studies on nutrition and aging. The research focuses on determining the nutrient and physical activity requirements necessary to promote well-being for older adults. HNRCA scientists examine how nutrition and physical activity play a major role in the prevention of the major chronic degenerative conditions and diseases associated with aging.

What You'll Do

This is a grant-funded position and is not eligible for severance pay.

The scientific staff at the HNRCA has several major roles. All scientists have as their major objective to maximize production of original research on nutrition and aging that is consistent with the mission and goals of the HNRCA and to serve as a source of expertise within the HNRCA, the larger Tufts community, and the scientific community at large. Working independently, but in close consultation and collaboration with other HNRCA scientists, the Scientist III will work toward establishing an independent program of research on nutrition and aging.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute a multi-year, data-driven scientific research program focused on nutrition and aging; collaborate with investigators at the HNRCA, Tufts, and other institutions to create original, significant contributions to the field
  • Prepare and submit original manuscripts (as lead author or co-author) for publication in high-impact peer-reviewed journals
  • Develop grant proposals and secure funding from government agencies and programs, corporations, and/or foundations whose research interests align with those of the HNRCA
  • Participate in the mentoring, training, and guidance of postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and exceptional undergraduates

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • An earned PhD, ScD, DVM, or other terminal degree in nutrition, biomedical sciences, or another highly relevant field
  • One or more years of post-doctoral training
  • Demonstrated scholarly activity related to the HNRCA’s mission with at least five to 10 examples of significant original research contributions published in peer-reviewed journals
  • A reputation for accomplishment within the scientific community, preferably in a mission-oriented specialty
  • The ability to work well with other investigators within HNRCA and in other laboratories

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or prior extramural funding, preferably from a U.S. federal department or agency

Pay Range

Minimum $72,500.00, Midpoint $90,700.00, Maximum $108,900.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
