Position Summary

The Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences (CDS), University at Buffalo, The State University of New York invites applications to apply for a full-time, twelve-month, term position in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology. Appointment will be made at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor depending on candidate profile. Areas of faculty interest must include clinical experience/expertise in differential diagnosis and treatment of adult neurogenic motor speech disorders and dysphagia. Experience with a variety of treatment methods and paradigms (individual/group/tele-practice) is desired. Applicants must be skilled in evidence-based practice and clinical education.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide graduate student clinical education and training for CDSs Master of Arts Graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology. Faculty are expected to take part in all facets of graduate SLP training including direct clinical supervision in the UB Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Clinic and in the Western New York Community, collaborate on research projects, and perform administrative duties associated with the clinic. The hired faculty member will be encouraged to develop their own specialty clinic and they will be expected to teach graduate level coursework within their areas of expertise. Additionally, faculty will be responsible for providing service to the department, to the university, and to the community.

Essential duties of the position include:
    • Provide clinical speech-language pathology services in our UB Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Clinic and in the community.
    • Educate and train graduate MA-SLP students in our clinic and in the community.
    • Develop a specialty clinic in the facultys specialty area.
    • Manage administration related to clinical training and clinical operations.
    • Develop interprofessional and collaborative clinical relationships within and outside the university community.
    • Teach 1-2 academic courses across the calendar year.
    • Participate in service to the department, college, university and the profession.

With support from the College of Arts and Sciences, the department is committed to building on existing research, clinical, and academic capacities to continue to provide leadership in the fields of speech-language pathology, hearing science, and related disorders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (MA/MS, SLPD, or PhD) in Speech-Language Pathology with a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience and a minimum of 1 year of direct clinical supervision experience.
  • Have or be eligible for ASHA certification.
  • Have or be eligible for NY State Licensure.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience in speech and hearing science at the university level preferred.
  • Engaging, motivated, self-initiator, and highly organized.
  • Experience with clinical research.



Physical Demands

Candidates must be able to work as a Speech-Language Pathologist in a clinical environment, travel to sites in the WNY community, and teach academic course work.
