Although not required, completion of a postdoctoral research fellowship is desirable Applicants with scholarly and teaching expertise in neurological, acute care, cardiopulmonary, and/or pediatrics are encouraged to apply; however, all qualified candidates are welcome to submit applications for consideration. Teaching responsibilities will be dependent upon content expertise. Individuals with demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion are considered desirable as establishing a diverse and inclusive culture is a priority at the University of Vermont.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • An academic doctorate in physical therapy or a related field (ABD will be considered if graduation is anticipated by May 2023)

  • A demonstrated record of scholarly/research activity and potential for securing external funding

  • A Physical Therapist who is licensed in any United States jurisdiction and eligible for licensure in Vermont.

  • Prior teaching experience in an entry-level DPT educational program.

  • Strong communication and collaborative abilities.

The DPT faculty model academic, clinical and research expertise, in addition to innovative teaching and learning opportunities (www.uvm.edu/cnhs/rms/physical_therapy). The small class size of 40 students allows for a variety of teaching approaches as well as time for scholarly activity. The DPT program is an integral component of the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences within the University. Uniquely positioned on the UVM main campus, along with our academic colleagues in Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering, Nutrition and Psychology and our clinical colleagues at the University of Vermont Medical Center, the College provides an exciting academic environment with excellent collaborative relationship potential for new faculty. The College priorities focus on promoting excellence in research, teaching and learning, interprofessional education, and practice collaborations within a stimulating Academic Medical Center environment.

The Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science is comprised of several related disciplines which includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise science and emergency medicine services. A Master’s degree in Physical Activity and Wellness and an interprofessional Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences also contribute to a growing Department. Departmental facilities include the recently renovated Human Motion Analysis lab which houses multiple force plates, EMG, and three-dimensional biomechanical equipment for static and dynamic human movement research; a physical activity and exercise behavior lab; and a neurophysiology lab that utilizes TMS and EEG. Other laboratory space for bench research interests is a potential through our interdisciplinary faculty collaborators.

The University of Vermont combines faculty-student relationships most commonly found in a small liberal arts college with the resources of a major research institution and medical center. The University is home to 10,700 undergraduates, 1,627 graduate students, 478 medical students and 1,692 full- and part-time faculty. Located in Burlington, Vermont (perennially voted one of America’s most exciting small cities), UVM’s setting in a valley on the shores of Lake Champlain, between the Adirondack and the Green Mountain ranges, inspires visitors and residents alike.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The University of Vermont is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other category legally protected by federal or state law.
