The Department of Nutritional Sciences at Auburn University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a research focus on bioactive dietary compounds and/or precision nutrition. This position is part of a strategic initiative to expand the department’s research portfolio in the impact of food and the diet on human nutrition and to align with university-related initiatives.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust, externally funded research program that investigates nutrition science on physiological effects, mechanisms of action, translational potential of bioactive compounds, nutritional genomics, and/or personalized nutrition strategies. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, chronic disease prevention, nutrient-gene interactions, gut microbiome modulation, and metabolic health. The candidate’s work should contribute to the advancement of human nutrition science and support the land-grant mission of Auburn University.

This faculty member will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including Experimental Foods (lecture and laboratory), which focuses on the chemical, physical, and sensory properties of food through research and product development. Additionally, the faculty member will contribute to curriculum development to integrate emerging science with an understanding of how nutrient intake and individual variability influence health outcomes.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program in bioactive dietary compounds, nutritional genomics, and/or precision nutrition.
  • Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with faculty internal to the department as well as across disciplines and engage in interdisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including Experimental Foods (lecture and lab), nutrition science, and other foundational courses in nutrition and research
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students on issues related to professional development, curriculum requirements, and career advancement.
  • Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service activities.

The Department of Nutritional Sciences in the College of Human Sciences offers a dynamic environment for discovery and innovation. In fall 2027, the department will be relocated into a newly constructed Academic and Research facility that will include labs for bench nutrition science research, an applied nutrition lab to support human clinical research, and an 8-station food and nutrition laboratory with the ability to conduct sensory evaluations. Faculty expertise spans metabolic disease, genomics, and community-based health programming. Aligned with the university’s strategic plan, the Department of Nutritional Sciences is committed to impactful research, creative scholarship, and delivering an exceptional student experience through hands-on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.
