A Level D academic (Associate Professor) is expected to make a significant contribution to all  activities of the organisational unit or interdisciplinary area and play a significant role within their profession or discipline. Academics at this level may be appointed in recognition of distinction in their disciplinary area.

Given the very recent establishment of the Department and plans to establish a Centre for Global Health Equity at Monash Malaysia, the appointee would also be expected to contribute to the development of the Department / Centre. The Department / Centre plans to develop and deliver a unique interdisciplinary Masters of Global Health - and if qualified the appointee could also be appointed as Course Coordinator.

This position is based at Main Campus, Bandar Sunway.

The appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of teaching and supervision in the new Master’s in Global Health course. In addition, the appointee will be expected to undertake research in Global Health - ideally in collaboration with faculty across Monash and beyond. The appointee should have a track record of research in the broad area of global health equity. The appointee will also actively contribute to the development of the Department.

Reporting line: The position reports to Professor and Head, Department of Global Population Health

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Contribute to curriculum development, innovation, enhancement and quality assurance in the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum
2. Develop and deliver innovative and excellent teaching, learning and assessment experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate students
3. Conduct world class research, including through the development of new research in specialist subject areas, writing reports to grant-making bodies as needed, maintaining an active record of publications and building a profile of grants and PhD student supervision/mentoring
4. Contribute to the development and implementation of a research strategy for Department of Global Population Health consistent with the research priorities of Monash University Malaysia and Monash University
5. External-facing activities include: contribute to the development of strong collaborations with other universities and with government, industry and/or civil society to drive research impact nd educational excellence; attend and give presentations at external conferences; participate in peer review of publications; review grant applications
6. Contribute to the management of education, research and/or administration in the School, including coaching, mentorship, leadership and effective performance management
7. Additional duties as appropriate

 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Education/Qualifications
1. A doctoral qualification (PhD) or equivalent qualification in a field related to the social and structural determinants of health/health equity (e.g. political science, political economy, international relations and/or global governance, humanities, law, social sciences)
2. An excellent research record, with a strong trajectory in publications and research outputs such as peer-reviewed papers, books, book chapters etc, successful collaboration on competitive-funded grants, and supervision of postgraduate research students at PhD/Masters level
3. A strong record in research leadership including generating research income, leading major research projects and, where relevant, building research teams, plus world class publications with evidence of impact
4. Demonstrated experience in the development of curriculum content, strong record of teaching including giving lectures and seminars, and a demonstrated commitment to educational innovation
5. Experience in working with partners in universities, government and/or civil society and a demonstrated interest in community and public engagement leading to greater research impact
6. Demonstrated skills and experience in collaboration, multidisciplinary teamwork, support for equitable partnerships and mentoring of junior colleagues
7. Preference will be given to applicants with research and teaching experience in social and structural determinants related to global health equity
