NURSING DEAN, Pre-Licensure BSN Program

POSITION TITLE: Nursing Dean

JOB SUMMARY: The nursing dean of the Pre-licensure BSN program provides leadership and oversight for the Southern Wesleyan University’s BSN program. Primary responsibilities include oversight of curriculum coordination, delivery and development; strategic planning for the program, including student recruitment and retention strategies; maintaining necessary approvals for the program in SC and within regional and national accreditors; and program budget management. This position is generally an administrative position assigned to a full-time faculty member.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implement strategy to ensure quality, viability and cost effectiveness of the program; Maintain relationship with administration and appropriate state, regional, and national agencies.
  2. Oversee curriculum coordination, delivery and development in the program;
  3. Manage nursing faculty and staff; Facilitate faculty and staff development and performance review.
  4. Collaborate with the admissions on strategy for recruitment of students;
  5. Collaborate with appropriate areas on campus to increase retention of nursing students;
  6. Development and execution of partnerships with other educational institutions and healthcare partners with the intention to serve the needs of local communities for the preparation of baccalaureate-trained nurses;
  7. Creation and maintenance of an environment conducive to teaching and learning;
  8. Participating in the preparation and administration of the nursing budget;
  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Nursing required, Doctorate in Nursing preferred (EdD, PhD, and DNP acceptable)
  • Previous experience with college-level teaching
  • 3 years of leadership experience preferred
  • Current unrestricted SC RN License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of current principles, techniques, policies and procedures of nursing practice, theory and management
  2. Knowledge of health care practices, procedures, terminology and technology as they relate to nursing
  3. Expert knowledge of current clinical nursing standards of care
  4. Principles and practices of effective management, supervision and leadership
  5. Highly organized, reliable, resilient, and accountable
  6. Great interpersonal skills, ability to lead by example, and manage stressful situations

The employee must be able to perform duties dependably and effectively in a diverse, challenging and occasionally stressful environment.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to: stay in a stationary position for long periods and operate a keyboard or type; use common business office machines such as a copier and telephone; handle materials weighing less than 20 lbs; traverse campus; communicate verbally with diverse constituencies; and, operate a computer. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
