Posting Detail Information

Position Summary

The Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health (EEH) invites applications for three Postdoctoral Associate positions to join our dynamic team of faculty and staff in the Center for Climate Change and Health Equity (CCCHE).

Position 1
Working with Dr. Shelby Yamamoto, EEH Associate Professor, CCCHE, the Postdoctoral Associate will work on research projects focused on climate change, air pollution, and other environmental exposures in relation to aging, social inequities, and health. Research related to climate change mitigation and adaptation will also be supported. Primary responsibilities include data linkage, data cleaning, quantitative analyses, writing manuscripts, mentoring students, assisting with grant development, conference presentations, and collaborating on projects with other researchers from the CCCHE. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to develop an independent research project related to the areas above.

Position 2
Working with Dr. Mark M. Janko, EEH Assistant Professor, CCCHE, the Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research on the health impacts of climate change, with a focus on vector-borne diseases in the Amazon and Congo Basins. Projects may expand to include other diseases or geographic regions based on the candidates interests, data availability, and funding opportunities. The research will involve developing historical and future climate scenarios-including counterfactuals-and integrating them with health surveillance and related data to estimate climate-attributable risk under Deep Uncertainty. The candidate will also contribute to the development of interactive tools and training materials for students and partners, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and present research at scientific meetings. Depending on interest, the candidate may also pursue independent research initiatives and assist with grant writing. Candidates with expertise in climate science, hydrology, earth and planetary science, and physically-based or machine-learning/AI-based climate modeling (e.g. hydrometeorological and/or atmospheric processes) are particularly encouraged to apply.

Position 3
Working with Dr. Kelly Baker, EEH Associate Professor, CCCHE, the Postdoctoral Associate will work on research integrating One Health concepts and evaluation approaches into urban climate resiliency initiatives in the US and globally. Candidates should demonstrate interest in method and protocol development supporting translational research on climate-focused community health equity interventions and have prior experience working in community partnerships. Development of independent research that contributes to Center mission will be highly encouraged. We are interested in candidates from a variety of backgrounds in climate and one health, with particular interest in implementation science, urban policy and planning, quasi-experimental methods, modeling and mapping of human, animal, or ecosystem climate vulnerability indicators, and environmental justice. Successful candidates will also be responsible for manuscript and grant writing in support of center-led transdisciplinary initiatives.

FOR ALL POSITIONS
The postdoctoral associates should be self-motivated, creative, productive, and organized. Successful candidates should possess expertise in statistical programming languages such as SAS, Stata and/or R. There is funding available for these positions for up to two years, however, the appointment will be reviewed and renewed on an annual basis. These are in-person positions, and candidates will be expected to be physically present at the University at Buffalo for the duration of the appointment.

We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty and share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potential. We are committed to developing an excellent and diverse community of scholars and students engaged in education, research, and service. We encourage applications from women, members of historically marginalized groups, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
