Position Summary:

The University of Idaho seeks a nutrition researcher and educator to join the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track position with 45% teaching and advising; 50% scholarship and creative activities; and 5% university service and leadership expectations.

The successful candidate will also advise undergraduate and graduate students; develop an externally funded, internationally recognized research program focused on basic, physiologic and/or clinical nutrition; and provide service to the university, region, state, and appropriate professional organizations.

The idyllic University of Idaho campus is co-located throughout the beautiful and rugged state of Idaho. However, the main campus is based in Moscow, a growing and lively community with all the benefits and opportunities typically available in a college town, such as excellent public and private schools, restaurants, and free public transportation as well as a plethora of diverse sports, world-class outdoor activities, and performing and visual arts offerings.

Teaching & Advising: As part of a dynamic team of nutrition and dietetics educators, teach human nutrition-related undergraduate and graduate courses, such as but not limited to research methods, nutritional biochemistry, energy/nutrient metabolism, and vitamins and minerals.

Contribute to undergraduate and graduate program development related to human nutrition. Advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Scholarship & Creative Activities: Conduct fundable, scholarly research related to basic, physiologic and/or clinical nutrition.

Disseminate results of research to academic, professional audiences, and other stakeholders via multiple venues such as refereed journals, scientific meetings, and outreach.

Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research endeavors.

Obtain extramural funding to support research program and graduate students.

Conduct interdisciplinary research within the unit, college, university, and larger nutrition research community.

University Service & Leadership: Provide service to the unit, college, university, and professional organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate in human nutrition, nutritional physiology, or related discipline. ABD applicants must have degree requirements completed at time of hire. Substantial graduate-level training in the broad scope of nutritional sciences. Clear potential for scholarly activity in area of basic nutritional sciences, nutritional physiology and/or human nutrition. Ability to conduct funded research and evidence of ability to obtain internal and external funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience conducting human subjects research related to assessing nutritional requirements or the impact of foods and nutrients on human health. Expertise and/or interest in conducting interdisciplinary work with other faculty in the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences. Classroom teaching experience at the college or university level. Experience with or ability to work on teams. Experience with distance education methodologies.
