The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy
at Tufts University seeks to hire two tenure-track or tenured faculty to join one of our largest and most successful units, the Division of Nutrition Interventions, Communication, and Behavior Change (NICBC).
NICBC is one of five divisions at the Friedman School that serve to organize our faculty and educational programs. The NICBC Division offers a rigorous, cutting-edge education and research program that prepares a diverse population of MS and PhD students for careers that focus on addressing the pressing nutrition, health, and equity challenges facing our communities and society at large. Students in NICBC receive training in nutrition science; nutrition policy and economics; study design and analysis; and communications, interventions, and behavior change. Merging study in these areas provides a unique interdisciplinary approach to translating and applying the current evidence into actionable, scalable interventions.
Candidates must possess a relevant doctoral degree, with a track record of applying disciplinary expertise to food and nutrition interventions. Successful candidates may have a background in the health sciences (e.g., nutrition, dietetics, public health, medicine, epidemiology, clinical psychology), social sciences (e.g., sociology, economics, political science, social psychology, health communication), systems sciences, or related professions (e.g., public policy, business, or law).
Candidates should have a record of independent research and publications. Candidates at the associate or full professor rank should have a vigorous externally funded research program, and candidates at the assistant professor rank should demonstrate promise to develop such a program. Areas of scholarship may include, for example, systems interventions in institutions (e.g., schools, worksites, healthcare), implementation science or study design focused on the individual and the multiple levels in which they live (e.g., family, community, culture), nutrition and health communications technology, and the study of complex structural factors driving inequities in nutrition and health.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach 2-3 graduate level courses per year, advise and mentor diverse students at the masters and doctoral levels, and engage in university and professional service.
Qualified candidates at the ranks of associate professor or professor may be considered for the position of division chair. The chair will lead the division while pursuing their own cutting-edge scholarship and mentoring, advising, and teaching as appropriate. In their chair role, the successful candidate should possess passion and enthusiasm to innovate in training future leaders, advancing high impact scholarship, and achieving large scale impact. Leadership duties will include faculty mentoring and development, curriculum strategy for their division, communication with division students, and participation in the admissions process, all in collaboration with and supported by the chairs of other school divisions, the Academic Dean, and the Dean for Research Strategy. Duties of the chair comprise 25% of the faculty member’s effort.
These are full-time, tenure-track or tenured, 12-month positions. Starting dates are negotiable. Salary, start-up package and benefits are highly competitive and will be commensurate with the successful candidates’ experience.
