Description:
The Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences (EOHS) in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the clinical or research associate professor or full professor level to lead the Great Lakes Center for Occupational Safety and Health (GLC-OHS)/Illinois ERC as the Principal Investigator. This non-tenure track position provides opportunities for research, teaching, and/or administrative practice in a well-established public health graduate school infrastructure. Leadership of the NIOSH-funded GLC-OHSentails guiding the $8 million dollar training, research and outreach programs to meet its strategic plan, overseeing all budgeting and reporting, and integrating the center’s activities into EOHS. The GLC-OHS is comprised of ten programs, with funding for trainee stipends and tuition, faculty salary, pilot research, and continuing education and outreach programming. Each of the ten programs is led by a faculty member, and in addition to the academic graduate degree programs in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, occupational and environmental epidemiology, and agricultural safety and health, the GLC-OHS also supports a pilot projects funding mechanism, a CE program, an Outreach program, a Targeted Research Training program and a Planning and Evaluation core. The PI is supported by a full-time program coordinator and a Director of Planning and Evaluation.
The position is supported by a NIOSH-funded grant. Additional clinical, research, and/or teaching activities are available. There are multiple opportunities for teaching courses in the EOHS Division, each compensated separately. Occupational Medicine physicians may choose to pursue clinical work as part of the Occupational Health and Safety Institute in UI Health with its clinic in University Health Services. Multiple opportunities exist in the division for self-directed research or collaboration with faculty in the various centers in the division, in other divisions in the School of Public Health, or with colleagues throughout the University of Illinois. Clinical and research faculty are valued members of our division and school community and play integral roles in mentoring, curriculum development and design, as well as classroom instruction. Clinical and research faculty receive mentoring for career development, have opportunities for methodological and collaborative research and have opportunities for promotion.
Candidates must have:
- A doctoral degree in public health, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, occupational medicine (with board certification) or related public health discipline.
- Professional practice and research experience including leadership roles.
- Experience teaching or training in an academic environment.
