Position description

A Junior or Assistant Specialist position is available in the Dr. Filipa Rijo-Ferreira Laboratory in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology, Berkeley Public Health. The Rijo-Ferreira Lab investigates how the daily rhythms of hosts, vectors, and parasites influence the outcome of parasitic diseases, such as malaria and sleeping sickness.

The Rijo-Ferreira Lab combines molecular parasitology, mosquito development, mammalian physiology, and neuroscience to investigate the role of circadian rhythms in the evolution and transmission of parasitic infections. Circadian rhythms provide an advantage to organisms from bacteria to humans; thus, a deeper understanding of the daily biology of parasites will enable the design of effective interventions.

The Rijo-Ferreira Lab seeks a Junior or Assistant Specialist to provide technical support for interdisciplinary, NIH-funded projects under the direction of Dr. Filipa Rijo-Ferreira. The primary purpose of the position is to participate in scientific projects, conduct experiments, and perform organizational and laboratory operational duties.
